For those readers outside the UK, Fearne Cotton is a Radio 1 and TV presenter, synonymous with quirky fashion. She has been known to don the odd hat, and as someone pretty well-known this means she gives them very good coverage!

fearneI love the contrast here between the black coat and red accessories. Black and red is probably my favourite colour combination, and the wide-brimmed hat here makes the otherwise simple outfit a statement.

Fearne seems to be a fan of the grunge look, which has been popular in recent years, and the hat she’s wearing here is adorable! For this look you wouldn’t want a hat that adds glamour, because it’s a rebellion against the too-made-up look on the other end of the fashion spectrum. So wearing a humorous hat feels to me like adding a touch of irony, proclaiming that she is following her own trends.

This is such a clever look! Whether it was a deliberate nod to Charlie Chaplin or not, I love the fusion of masculine and feminine – turning a dress into a suit shouldn’t work, but totally does. I do kind of wish she had a cane, though. The bowler hat completes the modernisation of Chaplin’s distinctive style.
