I may not have mentioned this before, but I am a rather dedicated Harry Potter fan. Ever since the age of 6, when I picked up the newly-released Philosopher’s Stone, I adored the series.

I thought I’d honour that today with a post about Emma Watson. We all know that she’s somewhat revered in the fashion industry, and while she may not be a hat connoisseur she’s certainly pulled off some pretty great hats. Let’s start with my favourite.

It’s like she’s laughing at herself, and I think that’s one of the most important qualities a person can have. The hat itself is wonderfully quirky and perhaps a little childlike. Set against the sophisticated, sultry red dress it tones down the look perfectly.

This little gem is effortlessly cool. The trilby is perched casually on her head, and is such an excellent way to glam up cropped hair. This is one of the beauties of hats: if you can’t be bothered to try anything with your hair (which I often can’t), hats can hide that.

I’m always an advocate for a wide-brimmed hat, and while this isn’t the biggest or widest of hats, it sets off the casual outfit and shades her face and shoulders! This post really demonstrates how much hats can change the tone of an outfit: the first makes it quirky and a little ironic, whereas these two smarten them up.

Hats are never one-trick-ponies. They are incredibly versatile, and this is why they’re worth investing in!
